Queer Women Travel Sites to Inspire Your Perfect Vacation

Queer Women Travel Sites to Inspire Your Perfect Vacation | LGBTQ+ Destinations | Scoop.it

My partner and I are avid travelers. As queer residents of New York City, we also often play tour guide for visiting family and friends when we’re not on the road. We encourage our guests to experience New York City beyond selfies in Times Square, including everything from outdoor movies on the historic Intrepid aircraft carrier, to New York Philharmonic concerts in the park, to food festivals in Brooklyn where you can enjoy a ramen burger and craft beer while viewing the Manhattan skyline.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

We also recommend that our queer visitors pay homage to and get wild at some of the longest standing LGBTQ bars that have played an important role in serving our community, such as Stonewall, the site of the Stonewall Riots that sparked the modern LGBTQ rights movement in the U.S., and Henrietta Hudson, the oldest brick and mortar queer women’s bar in New York City. We are also acutely aware that tourist guides fail to educate our visitors about the rich, diverse LGBTQ culture that exists beyond the bar scene, such as Voguing Balls and the largest LGBTQ fashion shows hosted at world renowned museums.

The ultimate list of lesbian travel bloggers on the world wide web.
Matt Skallerud's insight:

Travel blogging has become a huge industry, with everybody and anybody blogging about their travel experiences. But, when it comes to lesbian travel bloggers they are few and far between. These bloggers offer stories a lesbian can relate to. They offer a certain humor and perspective about travel, while pushing the boundaries in regards to LGBT issues.

Discotekka and Mekka are located in Miami's downtown entertainment district where beer, wine and liquor are legally served 24 hours a day. The nightclub features drag talent like Poison Ivy. The club is hosted by Milancita Rodriguez. Discotekka in downtown Miami is terrifically decorated, nicely lit and huge with a friendly staff — and that’s not always easy to find anymore. The patrons are generally young, attractive and not at all formal. The music is Latin house, classic house and hip hop and the drinks are fantastic. If you’ve never heard of a Blue Long Island Iced Tea, try one at Discotekka. This place is gay clubbing at its best.

About the Gay & Lesbian WilMa Neighborhood, Mark's List | Mark's List | LGBTQ+ Destinations | Scoop.it
In the past decade downtown Wilton Manors has evolved into a nearly one mile long corridor of Gay and Lesbian owned, shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

Via Mark's List
Mark's List's curator insight, August 7, 2013 9:49 AM

Wilton Manors (affectionately referred to as WilMa) is a city within the larger city of Fort Lauderdale. Wilton Manors is home to one of America's largest year-round populations of Gay and Lesbian residents. Wilton Manors was the second city in the country (after West Hollywood, California) to elect a Gay-majority city council.

In the past decade downtown Wilton Manors has evolved into a nearly one mile long corridor of Gay and Lesbian owned, shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The main street, Wilton Drive, is closed several times a year for LGBT festivals and events that are sponsored by Mark's List. The larger of the events are Stonewall Street Festival in June and Wicked Manors, a Halloween event that attracts tens of thousands of costumed revelers from all over the world.

Broward County is home to over 4,100 restaurants and over 120 nightclubs (1/3 of them are Gay or Lesbian oriented). Several of the nightclubs are located in downtown Fort Lauderdale's Arts & Entertainment district, but most LGBT establishments are located in Wilton Manors, the "Gayborhood of South Florida."
