15 Reasons Why You Should Attend WorldPride Madrid

15 Reasons Why You Should Attend WorldPride Madrid | LGBTQ+ Destinations | Scoop.it

Madrid is without a doubt our favorite place in the world. We’ve been living here for 3 years and we couldn’t be happier to call the Spanish capital home. On a recent trip back to the states, we had the pleasure to attend a World Pride Madrid pre-party with amazing hosts (yes drag queens!), fabulous guests and a particularly Spanish flare not often found in New York City. The event was intended to introduce Madrid and World Pride to the US audience, who for reasons we can’t quite figure out, don’t fully know about Madrid and it’s reputation as a gay friendly destination.

LGBT events abound in October, including this weekend’s Come Out Vegas roster

LGBT events abound in October, including this weekend’s Come Out Vegas roster | LGBTQ+ Destinations | Scoop.it
Margaret Cho, Charli XCX, Tyler Glenn and more will perform at various LGBT events this month.
Matt Skallerud's insight:

Las Vegas is going to be really, really gay in October. It’s hard to recall a month loaded with as many events celebrating the LGBT community as the one that begins this weekend. For starters, on October 8, the Gay and Lesbian Center of Southern Nevada holds its 22nd annual Honorarium awards and fundraising night, which lands this year at the Chelsea inside the Cosmopolitan. What makes this edition unique is what follows the affair: a full performance by comedian Margaret Cho, the Center’s Qmmunity Advocate of the Year.

Taking Pride: The LGBT community’s biggest weekend expands to create a destination event

Taking Pride: The LGBT community’s biggest weekend expands to create a destination event | LGBTQ+ Destinations | Scoop.it
“This is a year of rebuilding,” says returning president of the Southern Nevada Association of Pride James Healey.
Matt Skallerud's insight:

Dennis McBride, local LGBT historian and director and curator of photography at Nevada State Museum, recalls 1991 being a particularly pivotal year. “Pride was on the verge of dying,” he says. But after years of small gatherings in assorted locations, community leaders doubled down in every way possible, and the ramped-up event ended up surpassing 1990’s barely-300 attendance by more than 1,000—a triumph back then for gay Las Vegas.

Madrid: World Gay Pride Capital until 2017

Madrid: World Gay Pride Capital until 2017 | LGBTQ+ Destinations | Scoop.it
The Spanish capital will host the international celebration as well as the Euro Pride event
Matt Skallerud's insight:

Madrid will be the world’s proudest city in 2017. For the first time, the Spanish capital will serve as the host for the international LGBTQ World Pride event, as well as for Euro Pride. “It’s very important, because it’s never been done before – it’s the first time these two events are being celebrated in the same city,” says Juan Carlos Alonso, president of World Pride Madrid 2017’s planning committee. Last Sunday, Alonso and Javier Garrigues, Spanish consul in Amsterdam, received the baton of Euro Pride from the Netherlands on August 7. In July, Madrid Mayor Manuela Carmena officially took over the responsibility of World Pride 2017.
