Installation of the New York City AIDS Memorial Begins | LGBT Destinations | Scoop.it

Construction of the New York City AIDS Memorial is now underway at the recently named New York City AIDS Memorial Park at St. Vincent's Triangle, located at the intersection of West 12th Street and Greenwich Avenue in the West Village.  The Memorial organization expects final completion by early November, in advance of a public dedication for World AIDS Day on December 1, 2016.

President Obama is designating a new national monument at the Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement.
Matt Skallerud's insight:

The Stonewall National Monument in New York City will be the first addition to the National Park System specifically highlighting the history of the LGBT community. The monument covers nearly 8 acres in New York's Greenwich Village including a landmark gay bar, the Stonewall Inn. In June of 1969, gay patrons at the bar fought back against police persecution — an event that's widely seen as a watershed in the campaign for LGBT rights.
